JHOC Studio's

The aptly named "Joe's House of Compression" is the private studio/playground of Joe Barresi. Joe is one of my favorite producers and also one of my closest friends, he is also the biggest collector of cool vintage audio gear that I personally know and his studio reflects that. Joe's room is like a museum/showroom for just about every cool piece gear I can think of and also has tons of cool guitars, amps and Spice girls toys and stickers.

We have been mixing the Twin Atlantic record here for the last few days and I couldn't be happier with the room and all of the cool gear in here.

Joe stopped by last night and I played him a couple of songs, Sam from Twin Atlantic snapped this picture of Joe at the console, but what's cool is it has almost everyone from the session in the shot.

Joe is at the board, to his immediate right is Jun the assistant engineer, Stevie (Craig's brother)and all of the Twin Atlantic guys except Sam. The only person missing from the shot is Joe's brother Anthony who was probably busy wrangling Joe's dog "Bullet" at the time the shot was taken.

Last day of the British invasion of Kingsize as we just got finished and the Lost Prophets are done tomorrow.
It's always really fun being at Kingsize as Harry the studio manager is such a great guy and always so accomodating.Craig the drummer of Twin Atlantic took this picture of us leaving the studio at 3 a.m after a long day of tracking the last of the backing vocals. Tomorrow we start mixing.

Tracking at Kingsize in Eagle Rock and the Lost Prophets are in the room next door which is cool as they are friends with the Twin Atlantic guys. Everyone is very amped about all the recent changes we made in preproduction so the vibe is great. I think they are also very happy to be recording live with everyone in the same room playing together as they have never tracked like this before. This is going to be a really fun project.

Bass how low can you go

First day tracking Twin Atlantic, the band brought in this new bass amp from Fender that sounded great. I have been a huge fan of Ashdown bass amps since the first time I heard one, a classic round tone with the option for a dirty modern growl. That combination coupled with my vintage Orange bass amp always seems to provide room rattling low end. The room the cabinets are in is so small you can barely fit everything into it and the sound is huge, especially when coupled with my 1978 p-bass.

The new Static-X CD just entered the Billboard Charts at Number 16 I'm really happy for the band, the management over at Spectacle and everyone that worked with us to help make this happen.
